Department of State Announces Major Organizational Changes - Threatens Human Rights and Refugee Affairs

On April 22, as reported in the Guardian, Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced a proposal to dramatically recast the Department of State. Among other things, the proposal includes a 15% cut in staff and the closing of over a hundred offices (mostly in Africa). From the perspective of human rights and refugee affairs, two statements by Rubio are noteworthy.

❗ “The Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration funneled millions of taxpayer dollars to international organizations and NGOs that facilitated mass migration around the world, including the invasion on our southern border.”

🟰 Probably means this bureau will be shut down or rendered inoperational. The US Refugee Resettlement Program, USRAP, falls under this bureau, and as we all know USRAP has been pretty much decapitated.

❗ “The Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor became a platform for left-wing activists to wage vendettas against ‘anti-woke’ leaders in nations such as Poland, Hungary, and Brazil, and to transform their hatred of Israel into concrete policies such as arms embargoes."

🟰 Probably means this bureau will be shut down or rendered toothless.

Although the statements about Poland, Hungary, etc., are outlandish, what's most laughable is the statement about Israel. Where he gets that a US government bureau would exhibit an iota of hatred toward Israel, when the US government has consistently and continuously funded Israel's genocide and refused to hold Israel accountable for anything, is beyond me.
